VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

🫵

YOU

Myerlee Circle Condominium Association is looking for members who are interested in serving on the Board of Directors. Being a board member is a difficult job. It takes a commitment of time and resources, but it also can be rewarding.

Having a positive and optimistic attitude is extremely helpful, along with realizing the rules apply to all association members, and to understand that the authority comes as a board, not a board member.

Applying to join the Board of Directors can be a great way to get involved in your community and have a say in how it is run.

The board is responsible for making important decisions that affect our community and to provide a safe and attractive environment for all residents.

If you are interested in serving on the board and would like to learn more about what is involved, contact the board at (239)481–8387, or send your questions to board@myerleeecircle.com.

We look forward to hearing from you… 🫵 or 🫵.

THANK YOU FROM THE MEN ‘S CLUB

At the end of the 2023 growing season, the men’s club cleaned out the Community Garden, covered the soil and secured the fence. Early October 2023, Paul and Chuck proceeded to investigate the condition of the garden in preparation for getting it ready for the new planting season. They found a build-up of debris covering the soil and the soil was very hard and difficult to turn over. but, the fence was still standing. Both men made a strong effort to turn over the soil but were not successful due to the lack of appropriate equipment. After much discussion about available options, both men agreed to reach out to Angel Vargas, our landscape contractor, to obtain an estimate for this work. Angel and his son evaluated the job, gave the men a bid for the work to be done and recommended spreading some topsoil over the garden before planting begins.

Unfortunately, the men’s club determined they could not afford to buy topsoil, so agreed to have Angel just do the cleanup and turn over the soil. Early Wednesday morning Angel, his son and work crew cleaned the garden, removed the debris and spread some topsoil, although both men, again, explained that they could not afford to pay for the topsoil. Angel refused to consider any payment for the work he and his crew just completed, including the cost and spreading of topsoil, Before starting the job.

Angel had gotten permission to have a plaque made in the name of Bill Casteel to be placed at his previous rows of vegetables as Bill had always been kind and considerate to Angel and his crew.

Chuck will notify Bill‘s wife about this offering as Bill passed away two years ago.

THE MENS CLUB AND MCCA WANT TO THANK ANGEL AND HIS CREW FOR DONATING HIS TIME, EQUIPMENT AND STAFF TO PROVIDE A WELL PREPARED AREA FOR OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN.

*Contact Chuck Prevoir @(508) 685-2006 when you are ready to plant.

FUN THANKSGIVING FACTS

By the Editors of House Beautiful

Thanksgiving was originally celebrated in mid-October Some historians suggest it was held in mid-October, similar to the present- day Canadian Thanksgiving. It was President Lincoln who set the November date in order to coincide with the Pilgrims’ landing on Plymouth Rock.

Historians have no record of turkey being eaten at the first Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving Day feast happened in 1621 with three whole days dedicated to the celebration. Although turkey was plentiful in the region and a common food source, it’s likely that it wasn’t actually the star of the festivities and other “fowling” were served for the occasion, instead.

The first professional Thanksgiving Day football game was played in 1920. More than a century ago, when Thanksgiving Day fell on November 25, six football games took place, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. (The tradition of football on Thanksgiving began in 1876 with a college game between Yale and Princeton.)

Butterball has had a Turkey Talk-Line for nearly 40 years. If you find yourself with a million questions about cooking your turkey and Google is too overwhelming, reach for the phone because the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line is real and there to help you. Open to U.S. and Canadian homes every November and December, the unique hotline, which first opened in 1981, is also available to take questions via online chat and email. Plus, there are Spanish- speaking experts.

Each year, Butterball experts answer more than 100,000 questions for thousands of households.

Thanksgiving leftovers led to the invention of iconic  TV dinners Well, sort of,. In 1953, an overzealous Swanson employee overestimated the number of frozen turkeys the company should order for Thanksgiving…and the company was left with 260 tons of extra turkey after the holiday. But rather than eat the loss (financially, we mean), salesman Gerry Thomas came up with the brilliant idea to create and sell individual turkey dinners complete with cornbread dressing, gravy, peas, and sweet potatoes on reheatable trays, just like airline meals. Each premade feast cost a grand total of 98 cents. By the end of 1954, Swanson had sold 10 million frozen Turkey meals, and the TV

dinner industry was born.

“ Jingle Bells” was originally a Thanksgiving Day song.

Before becoming a Christmas Holiday anthem, Jingle Bells” was an 1857 song titled “One Horse Open Sleigh”,  and its composer, James Pierpont, intended it

to be a Thanksgiving Day song. But it became so popular around December 25 that in 1859 the title was changed to “Jingle Bells”—and the rest is history.

Happy Thanksgiving Day
